While Keyshia Cole seems to be moving on with no problem after her split from boyfriend Niko Khale (and the official end of her marriage to Daniel “Boobie” Gibson), Khale admitted he’s not unaffected by the end of their relationship.
In a brief exchange screenshot by blog Ice Cream Convos, a follower of Khale’s encouraged him to try and work through things with Cole and stop “tryna pretend that y’all don’t still love each other.”
Khale, who is a budding singer, responded with a rhyme of sorts, saying, “My heart is broken. My mind is open. My times approachin.”
We’re not sure if that means he’s hopeful about his next love story or if he desires to patch things up with Cole, but hey, good luck to them both.
Cole and Khale were an item since 2017, and they welcomed a son, Tobias, in 2019 before breaking up this year.
As we previously reported here, a Twitter user tried to accuse Cole of not being able to maintain her relationships after news of the breakup. She made it clear that that’s not true.
“See that’s where y’all got me f–ked up at,” she wrote. “A N—a don’t kno how to KEEP me … RESPECFULLY sus.”
Hell, she already has new suitors taking to social media vying for her affections, so she must do alright for herself.
The pair definitely seemed like they had a strong love connection, so it was disappointing to hear that they called it quits. However, they’re not alone in deciding that they want to finish out this rough year single — or at least, not with the person they were once with. Hit the flip to check out 11 other couples whose splits we’re still trying to get over.
Lena Waithe & Alana Mayo
The writer and actress married long-time girlfriend Alana Mayo in 2019, but in January, it was announced that the two decided to call it quits after only two months of marriage. There were all sorts of claims about what caused the breakup, including stories of Waithe’s alleged infidelity. While Mayo has kept a low-profile since the split, Waithe has seemingly moved on with actress Cynthia Erivo.
Cardi B and Offset
Cardi B shocked a lot of people when it came out that she was filing for divorce from Migos rapping husband Offset. The couple, who married in 2017, broke up briefly in 2018 due to his cheating attempts, but reunited in 2019. This time around, the “WAP” rapper said she was just tired of arguing and wanted to be happy, so she wanted to leave before things got toxic enough to lead to cheating.
Dr. Dre and Nicole Young
The legendary producer’s wife, Nicole Young, pulled the plug on the couple’s marriage in June, citing irreconcilable differences, and it’s been a contentious divorce ever since. The pair were married in 1996 and went on to have two children together. She alleged that during their marriage, she endured years of abuse.
Emmett and Pat Smith
We hate to see lengthy marriages end. NFL Hall of Famer Emmett Smith and Pat Smith (or Southall) announced in August that they were calling it quits. The couple married in 2000 and had three children together.
“We will continue to move forward with love and compassion for one another, as co-parents and friends,” they said of the split in a statement. “We will work together in the best interests of our children, our family, community and businesses.”
Rapper MC Lyte filed for divorce from her marriage to entrepreneur John Wyche in August. The couple met in 2016 on Match.com and married in 2017. She cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the end of the marriage. She previously publicly thanked God for him.
Luther Campbell and Kristin Thompson
Rapper Uncle Luke announced that his wife, Kristin Thompson, filed for divorce in July. The couple married in 2008 and share a son, and she was featured on his short-lived VH1 reality show Luke’s Parental Advisory. He admitted in September that he was blindsided by her decision.
“It’s mind-boggling, hurtful, and a total surprise,” he said. “I never intended to get married to get divorced.”
Ray J and Princess Love
This one we’re not struggling with so much because it’s been a back and forth mess. Ray J filed for divorce in September, doing so after Princess Love withdrew her own divorce filing from May in July to work things out for the sake of their children. However, he’s already second-guessing his decision, especially since he filed without talking to Princess first. She has said that a reconciliation isn’t happening.
Simone Biles and Stacey Ervin, Jr.
Stacey Ervin was Simone Biles’s first real boyfriend, and their relationship went for a long time, three years together.
“It’s hard being young and having that long of a relationship and then ending it,” she told VOGUE about the split. “But it was for the best.”
The gold medalist has already moved on, doing so with new boyfriend, NFL player Jonathan Owens.
Kehlani and YG
The singer and rapper seemed like the “It” crazy in love music couple after going public with their relationship last year. But infidelity, including him kissing on another woman in public, led to the demise of their relationship after just a few months. However, she says they’re in a good place as friends.
“The last conversation we had was the decision to be like, we do exist in the same industry and I don’t wanna have to walk in the room and someone awkwardly be like ‘you know, your ex is in here,’ then we both have weird energy with each other,” she said. “We’re not on any type of bad terms. I wish him the best, he wishes me the best. It’s nothing but love.”
Rihanna and Hassan Jameel
For three years, Rihanna was able to keep her relationship with Saudi businessman and billionaire Hassan Jameel private, and she was able to do the same with their breakup. Word on the curb was that the couple split because their lives were too different, what with her being a massive pop star and mogul and what not, but she gave it her best try, as she told Interview Magazine last year.
“I got into a new relationship, and it matters to me. It was like, ‘I need to make time for this.’ Just like I nurture my businesses, I need to nurture this as well,” she said. “I’ll shut things down for two days, three days at a time. On my calendar we now have the infamous ‘P,’ which means personal days. This is a new thing.”
Meek Mill and Milan Harris
When their friendship turned into a romantic relationship, rapper Meek Mill and designer Milan Harris ended up having a child in May. By July though, he revealed that they had called it quits, but would maintain their friendship.
“Me and Milano decided to remain friends and build our child as separate parents … we still have mad love for eachother but we both came to a understanding,” he said, adding, “no fall out either just moving forward!
