Christy Knowings, the actress best known for her memorable role on Nickelodeon’s hit sketch comedy series All That, has died at the age of 46. According to reports from TMZ and People, Knowings passed away on Aug. 11 after suffering a severe asthma attack that left her with brain damage.
Knowings was hospitalized on Aug. 7 at a Los Angeles hospital, where she was placed on life support. She ultimately died several days later on Tuesday.
Who was Christy Knowings?
The actress became a familiar face to Nickelodeon viewers after joining All That in 1997. She appeared in more than 30 episodes of the popular sketch series before making her final appearance in 1999. During her time on the show, Knowings became part of a cast that helped define Nickelodeon’s comedy programming for a generation of young viewers. One of Knowings’ most memorable moments on All That came through her recurring “Whatever” sketch and signature catchphrase, which she performed alongside co-star Amanda Bynes. She also made fans laugh with her hilarious “Breaking News” segment as anchor Brenda Stone.

Beyond All That, Knowings continued working in television and film. She appeared in the 2009 drama Mother and Child, for which she also received a writing credit. She later made three appearances on Sesame Street between 2009 and 2011, marking her most recent listed television credits.
Knowings also remained connected to the entertainment community in recent years. In June, she was featured as a special guest at the Black Beat Magazine Relaunch event, held during the BET weekend celebration. The actress said she was “honored” to be apart of the big event in a post shared to her Instagram account on June 28.
All That alums Keenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell paid tribute to the star.
News of her death prompted an emotional tribute from fellow All That alum Kenan Thompson, who shared a heartfelt message on Instagram.
“Man this one hit hard!!! Rest well Christy!!! Never could have imagined this day!! Sending so much love to her family!! She was a real one and one of the funniest people out here!!! Gonna miss you buddy!!!” he wrote.
All That alum and Thompson’s Kenan & Kel co-star, Kel Mitchell, also took to Instagram to pay tribute to Knowings, writing in part:
“Christy was truly one of a kind. 🫶🏽🕊️ So naturally funny, incredibly talented, and fearless when it came to comedy. She had a gift for creating characters that were big, memorable, and completely her own. I’ll always be grateful for the laughs, the memories, and the time we shared as part of the All That family.”
Thompson and Mitchell’s tributes reflected the impact Knowings had on those who worked alongside her during the early years of their careers. For many fans, her work on All That remains part of the show’s lasting legacy and a defining piece of Nickelodeon’s 1990s programming.
As news of her passing spread, fans and former colleagues remembered Knowings for her comedic talent, personality and contributions to the beloved sketch comedy series.
“I’m mad as hell she’s gone so soon. Like I know life isn’t fair but DANG IT!!!!” wrote one fan in the comments section.
Another user penned, “So sad. Rest in peace.”
