A school district in Florida has temporarily banned the historical film, Ruby Bridges, after an elementary school parent’s complaint. She claimed the film was teaching students about “racial slurs” and that “white people hate black people.” The film documents the real-life experiences of Bridges, who became the first African American student to integrate her local elementary school in 1960. The film remains available through the district’s licensed movie library, and officials are assessing whether to approve it for future lessons.
