Calcea Johnson and Ne’Kiya Jackson, two seniors from St. Mary’s Academy in New Orleans, presented their remarkable findings on a mathematical problem that has troubled mathematicians for more than 2,000 years. They demonstrated the Pythagorean theorem, without circular reasoning, using trigonometry during a presentation at the American Mathematical Society’s Annual Southeastern Conference. According to 4WWL, their presentation, titled “An Impossible Proof of Pythagoras,” was delivered March 18; they were the only high school students in attendance.
