Despite them bumping heads on the campaign trail, after endorsing Joe Biden for president in March of last year, he chose her for his vice-presidential candidate in August. She beat out some formidable figures, including Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Senator Elizabeth Warren.
She was the first Black woman and Indian American to be a vice-presidential nominee, but she was the third woman at that point.
