Sanaa Lathan

Actress Sanaa Lathan has been a regular fixture of Black Hollywood for practically 20 years and during that time, she has delivered some beloved and memorable performances in films like Love & Basketball, Brown Sugar and The Best Man.

Despite being regularly linked to the who’s who of celebrity men, Lathan has remained single throughout the years and has repeatedly stated that she will entertain marriage when she is ready, not because of societal standards.

During a recent interview, Lathan discussed her relationship preferences:

“I always wanted [to get married]—and I dream about having—a life partner, but I am completely happy, and I love my freedom. I do date, but I do not want anything less than something that’s amazing. And if it’s not gonna be that, I’m just gonna keep being my free-spirit self. I was talking to a friend of mine who’s around my age, and there is a thing when people look at you, and they’re like, “So…” as if you’re failing because you’re not married. I have so much love in my life. And maybe I will have a life partner. But I don’t know.”
