When you win an Academy Award for you very first film role after being rejected on the popular reality show American Idol, there’s really nothing you can’t do. That’s exactly the underdog spirit that has propelled singer/actress Jennifer Hudson in a long-standing career.

In the middle of her rise to the top, Hudson had a son, who many though would derail her career, and continued to push forward. Naturally, the media couldn’t wait to pressure her for explanations about her newly single status after she ended her 10-year engagement.

However, Hudson is mostly focused on being the best and most hands-on mom she can be to her son, David:

“As soon as I walk through the door of my house, I forget about everything on the outside. I’m on mommy time. When David was younger, he could travel with me everywhere, but now I want him to have a normal upbringing and a childhood with stability. [Being] a mom…really changes you and makes you think in that way… My mother was a very present mom, and I want to be the same for my son.”
