10 Things To Know About Rachel Roy, Including That She’s Not A Chef

Rachel Roy Is Dutch And Indian

Roy was born to a Dutch mother and a Bengali Indian father. In an interview with RedFlag.org, she gave an inside peek into what life was like growing up with both, specifically, the greatest lesson she learned from them:

“My mom is a white Dutch woman that converted – she tried to be everything that a good Indian woman should be. In her doing so what I learned was kindness, respect for your elders and respect for people’s privacy…My dad was extremely demanding. He worked three jobs his entire life – he still works three jobs. When he was a sociology professor at a college he would make my brother and I sit in the back row and take notes on what we learned. If I didn’t have that experience I don’t believe I would have had the successes I have had in all my work and in my business. It allowed me to apply what I learned about sociology – essentially the psychology of people – to my work.”
