They say you can tell how a man will treat his woman by how he treats his mother. And if that’s true, these celebrity men are going to make their wives very happy.
Common is so close to his mother, Mahalia Ann Hines, that she helped narrate his 2011 memoir, One Day It’ll All Make Sense. He also took his lovely mother as his date to the Oscars. Aren’t they adorable?
Kanye West was very close to his late mother, Donda, which made it that much sadder when he lost her in 2007 after she suffered complications from breast reduction surgery and liposuction.
Tupac wrote “Dear Mama” about his relationship with his mother, Afeni Shakur. And years after his death, Afeni is still preserving her son’s memory through the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, designed to protect Tupac’s legacy.
The Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star and his mother may be a little too close. At least that’s what Erica Dixon, Shay Johnson, and most of Lil Scrappy’s other former love interests would say about his relationship with Momma Dee.
Waka Flocka Flame
Debra Antney and Waka Flocka Flame aren’t just close as mother and son, but they’re business partners too. Waka’s mother not only manages him, but she once managed Nicki Minaj and Gucci Mane as well.
Unfortunately, the family that does business together also gets sued together. Both Waka and his mom were looking at a lawsuit from Gucci Mane, who claimed that they ruined his career, but Gucci dropped that suit.
Sean “Diddy” Combs
Diddy and his mom are super close. The mogul says she’s one of the few people he can count on to be there, even when he’s not expecting her to show up. As he put it, “I’ll just look up, and she’s there.”
Farrell’s Miami Vice co-star Jamie Foxx says that one of the best things about the actor is how good he is to his mother, Rita.
We wouldn’t have believed that there was a such thing as being too close to your mother — until we heard Shia LaBeouf talk about his during an interview with Playboy:
“Probably the sexiest woman I know is my mother … If I could meet my mother and marry her, I would. I would be with my mother now, if she weren’t my mother, as sick as that sounds.”
LaBeouf later said it was all a joke to make his mother laugh on Mother’s Day. Sure it was…
Why hasn’t Leonardo DiCaprio ever tied the knot? It might be because he’s never found anyone to live up to his mother, Irmelin DiCaprio. According to DiCaprio:
“To have a woman like [my mother] in your life, who is strong, who’ll be honest with you about who you are … that’s something I treasure. And it’s something I look for in a woman.
I wouldn’t be doing any of this if it weren’t for her. She supported this little kid who said, ‘I want to be an actor,’ at 12 years old, which is ridiculous, and she drove me to all these auditions. She’s the only reason I’m able to do what I do.”
Usher and his mother, Jonetta Patton, are very close. That has brought some stress to the women who have come and gone in Usher’s life. When he married Tameka Foster without his mom’s OK, they stopped talking for a while.
But now that Tameka and Usher are divorced, Usher told Oprah that he and his mother are thick as thieves again. She lives just five minutes away and comes over to his place on a daily basis.
JT recently posted this throwback photo of his “first partner in crime” and has said in the past that he’s not afraid to compare every woman in his life to his mother:
“We have a very special relationship. She’s been my best friend since I figured out what I wanted to be. With girls, you keep searching for someone that’s as good as your mum, and that’s a losing battle.”
Obviously his wife, Jessica Biel, is the exception.
Ryan Gosling says that ladies all over the world have his BFF and mother, Donna Gosling, to thank for his sensitive side:
“I think like a girl. I was literally raised by my mother and my sister, and I just feel like I wouldn’t know how to think any other way.”
Drake has called his mother, Sandi Graham, “the most important person in my life.” And he credits everything he’s accomplished to her efforts and struggles after his father left: “I had to become a man very quickly and be the backbone for a woman who I love with all my heart, my mother.”
He even gave her the Best Rap Album Grammy he won for Take Care in February 2013, saying, “It’s in her kitchen now. One day she’s going to put some shelves up in her house and start displaying some stuff.”
After his father died, Bradley Cooper took a break from Hollywood life and moved his mother Gloria in to live with him. Cooper said, “My dad dying was brutal for all of us … we need each other.” But the actor says his mother didn’t cramp his style too much because she’s “a cool chick. We can hang.”
