The bond between parent and child can be a strong one, but as such, there does seem to be a thin line between love and loathe. Being a teenager is a very difficult time in your life, but the experience is probably even more intense when you’re famous. Award winning singer and actress, Brandy, charmed her way into our hearts, acting in multiple mediums. There was a time when she was highly marketable. Not wanting her daughter to be taken advantage of, Sonja became her manager, and this was a source of tension between the two.
In a 2002 interview in Oprah’s O magazine, Brandy, who was dealing with wanting to be rebellious and a people-pleaser would clash with her mom-ager because she felt like her mother occasionally saw her as just a commodity. The standard of being perfect was hard for Brandy to deal with as well. Sonja admitted that there were times when she was more of a manager when she should have been a mom and vice versa. But with the birth of Brandy’s daughter, the two have a better relationship now.
