Fully committing to her characters, per the usual, Cicely Tyson took her hair down very low to play Binta, Kunta Kente’s mother, in Roots. This look is reminiscent of the parting done with Bantu knots (just without the actual knots). The look, and of course, her supreme acting, garnered her an Emmy nomination for her work in the iconic miniseries.
