While most female singers aren’t afraid to use their looks to sell records, 90’s R&B singer Maxwell felt the opposite way. When he released his debut album Urban Hang Suite, he decided against having his face on the album cover because he wanted his music to sell itself. Born to a Haitian mother and Puerto Rican father, the “Ascension” singer wore singer wore his curly/kinky hair in a huge afro, which most of his female fans adored. After a seven-year hiatus, Maxwell re-emerged on the music scene sans the afro but with the same sex appeal that his fans fell in love with in the first place.
