We’ve all been guilty of letting our tempers get the best of us at one time or another but these stars clearly have anger issues and were forced to attend management classes to get their emotions in check.
Chris Brown virtually grew up in the public limelight and was one of R&B’s brightest stars until he assaulted Rihanna in 2009. Since then Brown has had a hard rehabilitating his image and his anger issues certainly aren’t helping. After a string of arrests for assault and hit and run charges, Brown decided to be proactive and seek help for his anger issues. But he left treatment early after going into a fit of rage and a judge ordered the “Don’t Judge Me” singer back to anger management for 90 days and to be subject to random drug testing.
No one can walk the catwalk quite like Naomi Campbell and she displayed her fierce walk when cameras caught the supermodel walking to and from New York City’s Department of Sanitation’s depot where she was performing community service. Campbell, who is infamous for her angry outbursts, pleaded guilty to assault after throwing her cell phone at her maid in 2006. In addition to community service where she strutted her stuff wearing different designer threads, Campbell was ordered to take anger management classes.
Sean Penn may be one of Hollywood’s eligible bachelors but his anger issues may precede him. Penn clashed with a photographer in 2009 and as a result, he pleaded no contest to vandalism. Dodging a charge of battery, the Mystic River actor was ordered to attend 36 hours of anger management classes. Penn’s anger dates all the way back to when he was married to pop singer Madonna in the 80’s. Penn spent 33 days in jail for assaulting a photographer.
His daughter is a famous Hollywood star and he’s infamous for his run-ins with the law. Michael Lohan had a disastrous relationship with Lindsay’s mother, Dina, and the relationship with on-again, off-again girlfriend Kate Major seems just as toxic. In 2011, Lohan was arrested on domestic violence charges and when he called Major 12 hours later, he was arrested again. The father of six tried to elude cops by jumping out of his third-story window. Lohan checked himself into rehab and was ordered to undergo 120 days of treatment for his anger issues.
A scuffle with a parking valet attendant over foreign currency ended with a broken nose for the victim and anger management classes for actor Omar Sharif. In 2007, the Lawrence of Arabia star tried to give the attendant European currency after a night of drinking and dining but when his money was refused, an inebriated Sharif became belligerent and punched the victim, breaking his nose. Sharif pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery charge and ordered to complete a 15-hour anger management course.
Rappers may be known to beef with one another but apparently so do rockers. Back in 2003, White Stripes frontman Jack White faced off with Jason Stollsteimer, the frontman for Von Bondies at a Detroit nightclub. Stollsteimer was clearly the loser in the fight. In addition to suffering from a torn retina that required surgery, his nose was swollen and bloody and his forehead was bruised. Dodging a year in jail, White pleaded guilty to assault, was forced to attend anger management classes and pay $700 in fines and court costs.
Like oil and water, Mel Gibson and alcohol just do not mix. The Waterworld star had several run-ins with the law that were initially caused by drinking. In 2006, Gibson was pulled over for DUI and the arresting officer found himself on the receiving end of an infamous Mel Gibson tirade. He pleaded no contest to drunk driving charges and the judge decided to give Gibson the help he needed. Gibson was forced attend self-help meetings five times a week for four and a half months and then three times a week for the remainder of the first year of his probation. A lot of good it did. Gibson, who was also ordered to attend a First Offenders Program, made headlines in 2010 when his angry, racist-laden voicemails to his girlfriend at the time leaked.
Rapper Jim Jones is no stranger to brushes with the law. In 2010, the “We Fly High” rapper pled guilty to assault. Jones was accused of crashing his car into another vehicle and then to add insult into injury (or injury to insult), Jones beat up the other driver. He was ordered to attend ten weeks of anger management classes. Jones also let his temper get the best of him earlier that year when he accused of beating up a teenage fan in Florida. In 2009, Jones pled guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge after brawling with Ne-Yo’s entourage.
After getting into a spat with his girlfriend Journey drummer, Deen Castronovo was arrested and looking at some serious charges. Castronovo was facing coercion, assault in the 4th degree, criminal mischief in the 2nd degree, interfering with making a report and harassment. Originally professing his innocence, the rocker soon changed his tune and worked out a deal with prosecutors. The courts agreed to throw out the charges as long as Castronovo completed 80 hours of community service and attend anger management classes.
Halle Berry thought she found love with model Gabriel Aubry and the two had a daughter together before splitting up. The breakup was less than amicable and the duo squared off in court against each other over custody. Under investigation for criminal battery and child endangerment charges after the nanny claimed he pushed her while she had Nahla, Aubry agreed to take anger management classes. But things reached its boiling point when Aubry and Berry’s boyfriend at the time (now husband) Oliver Martinez fought later that year in a Thanksgiving brawl. After receiving a black eye, the court apparently decided that was punishment enough and decided the former model did not need to attend the classes after all.
Country singers are known for having the blues but in the case of Bill Currington, he was ordered to cool down his red-hot temper. Last April a 70-year-old captain was minding his own business while giving a couple of passengers a tour on his boat in Savannah, GA, when they passed by Currington’s home. The “Pretty Good At Drinkin Beer” singer let them have a piece of his mind and threatened the captain. He was charged with making a terrorist threat to cause bodily harm and one count of elderly abuse. Currington was ordered to take anger management classes and cough up a grand in fines.
Actress Pia Zadora is married to a police officer but she found herself on the other side of the law last June. The Naked Gun 33 1/3 star was arrested on domestic charges after spraying her 16-year-old son with a hose. Zadora, who had been drinking that night, was merely trying to make her son go to bed but the police were called and they felt otherwise. Charged with domestic violence and coercion, Zadora was ordered to undergo impulse control classes and attend an alcohol use evaluation in order to avoid jail.
Spencer Pratt made his fame and fortune on reality television but in 2010 he was in danger of losing his job. Pratt got into a tiff with one of the producers on the hit reality show “The Hills” and was forced to take a break from the show. Initial reports surfaced that Pratt was kicked off of the show but during his forced hiatus, Pratt was ordered to take anger management classes.
Joe Francis made his money in the late 90’s by taking a camera down to Mardi Gras and filming drunk girls in exchange for colorful beads. As the creator of the wildly popular “Girls Gone Wild” DVD series, Francis became a multi-millionaire overnight. But Francis has made headlines for other reasons, lke in 2011 when he took three women back to his mansion and was accused of false imprisonment and assault. The flesh peddler was sentenced to 270 days in jail and ordered to complete Level 3 Anger Management course.
Kanye West just does not like the paparazzi. He’s always valued his privacy but after welcoming daughter North West into the world, West has been even more protective. The Chicago rapper had a few run-ins with the paps and one incident almost led West into hot water. Prosecutors wanted the judge to order the “New Slaves” rapper to attend anger management classes. However, West was able to dodge the classes but was told to stay at least ten feet away from the photographer he attacked outside LAX.
