This spring, there’s power in the flower! Floral prints are HUGE right now, literally. The over-sized petals of today are a nice update on a trend that comes as no surprise. Like clockwork, roses, orchids, lilies, and more appear in full bloom during the month of March. Labels like Diane von Furstenberg, Cynthia Rowley, and Balmain featured floral prints in their Spring 2012 collections. As a result, celebs such as Zoe Saldana and Solange have already been spotted rocking the trend.
We know keeping up with the ‘latest and greatest’ can be expensive for us fashionistas on a budget. So we’ve gathered pieces that are both easy on the eyes and the wallet. Thank us later, you’ve got some petal pickin’ to do!
Purchase dress pictured above from Macy’s.
Multi Floral Pleat Dress, Dorothy Perkins – $75
This dress was MADE for spring! The colorful floral print is eye-catching alone, but the orange color really punches things up a bit. Plus, we can’t get enough of the structured shape! Cap sleeves and pleated skirt ensure that this dress will flatter any figure.
Lightweight Floral-Print Scarf, Old Navy – $12.94
Are you a bit hesitant to cover yourself in this trendy print? Trust us, we understand. Try a lightweight scarf like this ivory-based one. Scarves are so versatile and this one will brighten up any outfit without being overpowering.
Tropical Floral Print Leggings, Topshop – $40
Floral trousers are everywhere right now, but a legging option like this one is a safer bet. Leggings have more stretch which allow them to mold to the wearer’s shape. Not to mention they’re less expensive. This tropical print is so bright and fun! A loose creme blouse and flats are chic options to pair with this bottom. If you just HAVE to have a pair of floral trousers, then check out this option here, also by Topshop.
Fabric Envelope Clutch With Leather Trim, Asos – $64.46
The envelope clutch is also trending at the moment. We think adding huge flowers to one seems like a natural fit. This clutch is quite roomy and would work well as a carry-all during the day, and as an over-sized clutch at night. Plus, the contrasting black leather trim is a classic touch.
Pansy Silk Blouse, Nasty Gal – $66.50
This flowing blouse gives off a true hippie vibe. Its cutout sleeves and abstract buds are another nod to the 70’s. Keep things casual and rock with jeans. Switch to jean shorts as the weather gets warmer and we’re thinking a wedge heel would be awesome if you’re looking to add a little height.
Floral Silk Satin Blazer, Zara – $89.90
This statement blazer proves that even muted floral’s make a loud impact! We love the model’s outfit here, so when picking separates to wear, keep the look and the colors found in this blazer in mind. As pictured, green and black work well. Or, you could try a coral bottom with a mustard top. This fun print will bring it all together.
Woven Floral Skirt, Forever21 – $10.36
At first glance, you may think this skirt doesn’t stand out as much as our other choices. Look closer. This high-waist number is comprised of tiny flowers that ban together and create the look of larger flowers. It’s an inception skirt, but instead of dreams we’re dealing with a print within a print. At any rate, it’s beautiful and you can’t beat the price!
AWear Floral Peplum Top, Asos – $44.76
Another trend combination: peplum and florals. This makes for one classy combo because both trends ooze femininity! Go with the dressy vibe and rock with cropped trousers and almond toe heels. Or, dress it down as pictured and pair with a light wash denim jean and toss on a comfy shoe. Fresh!
AE Floral Corset Dress, American Eagle – $29.99
Ah, sundress season. This sundress’ navy base is the perfect backdrop for these bright, multicolored petals. Pair with a cardigan in a neutral color like grey and opaque tights until the weather breaks. Once it does, flaunt it all!
Kimchi Blue Printed Platform Heel, Urban Outfitters – $59
The chunky platform heel gets a nice upgrade with this trendy pattern. Resembling wallpaper, the heel and sole of this shoe is gorgeous! The bright red upper works well with the print and who doesn’t love a Hot ankle strap?! Floral’s rule!
Would you wear any of these floral pieces?
