If someone else gets first place, don’t berate them

When somebody beats out your kid in a sports game or competition, make him congratulate them. Make him even ask them for guidance or tips. It’s okay for him to see that someone else is better at something, sometimes. You don’t need to get in your kid’s ear and say “The ref made a foul call, and that should’ve been your win” or “The judge got paid to pick him.” That teaches your child to never take responsibility for his losses.
