For Colored Girls (2010)
I know I can hear the groans now. For Colored Girls was more depressing than a little bit. There was no relief from the sadness. While it was a bit too heavy for me, I do think Tyler was able to shine with the multiple story lines. One of my major complaints about his work has been that he tries to tell too many stories in one film. With this ensemble cast though, it was called for. Those who were fans of Ntozake Shange’s original work were disappointed but I thought the performances were flawless and you have to give Tyler credit for directing these women.
