3. Why Not Whitney ?
Earlier, I mentioned that in one of the first times this movie went to production, Whitney was in the running to play Deena. Well, that didn’t go down because Whitney wanted to sing both Deena and Effie’s songs, especially the “And I Am Telling You,” one. When I discovered this little tidbit of information, I literally laughed out loud at Whitney trying to rearrange the whole script to showcase her vocal ability. Obviously, she had the vocal ability to do both but there is no way it would have made sense for Deena to sing that song and Whitney surely couldn’t have gained enough weight to convincingly portray Effie.
