V.J. discusses her feelings towards the anti-abortion protestors:
During our discussion about her feelings towards the protestors, I was struck by her experiences with the nurses. Although Mississippi and other southern states have had a spotlight on them related to their restrictive abortion laws, there is not much conversation about how anti-abortion attitudes manifest beyond that. I have heard from several friends that nurses and doctors treated them differently, sometimes cruelly, upon finding out they had abortions. This is the type of discriminatory treatment that contributes to the country’s rising maternal mortality rate, which disproportionately impacts Black women.
