A lot of celebrities who speak out about their political views are pretty liberal. After all, actors and musicians are typically creative- minded which tend to lean towards Liberal views. However, that doesn’t mean that all celebs are registered Democrats. There are actually more Republican supporters that you might think. Take a look at these 7 celebs who lean to the right.
1. LL Cool J
James Todd Smith, better known as LL Cool J (abbreviation for Ladies Love Cool James), is an American rapper, entrepreneur, and actor. But you might not know his support of the Republican Party. In 2004, LL Cool J attended the Republican National Convention.
2. Don King
Donald “Don” King is an American boxing promoter, whose career highlights include promoting “The Rumble in the Jungle” and the “Thrilla in Manila.” He also had a long association with Mike Tyson. King has also promoted some of the most prominent names in boxing. Aside from a long boxing career, King is politically active and made media appearances promoting George W. Bush during the 2004 U.S. presidential election, which included attendance at the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York City.
3. Charles Barkley
Charles Wade Barkley, a former American professional basketball player, nicknamed “Sir Charles” and “The Round Mound of Rebound,” established himself as one of the National Basketball Association’s (NBA’s) most dominating power forwards. He was selected to the All-NBA First Team five times, the All-NBA Second Team five times, and once to the All-NBA Third Team. After competing in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics and several awards, Barkley started to shift gears towards his political aspirations. Barkley spoke for many years of his Republican Party affiliation and in 1995, he considered running as a Republican candidate for Alabama’s governorship in the 1998 election. He did not run but in September 2006, Barkley once again reiterated his desire to run for Governor. He noted, “I can’t run until 2014 … I have to live there for seven years, so I’m looking for a house there as we speak.” Recently, however, Barkley declared himself an Independent.
4. Dwayne Johnson (The Rock)
The Rock, American actor and professional wrestler, is also a registered Republican. In 2000, Johnson attended both the 2000 Republican National Convention and made a speech but also attended the 2000 Democratic National Convention. Both appearances were part of the WWE’s non-partisan “Smackdown your Vote” campaign that aimed to increase voting among young people.
5. James Earl Jones
James Earl Jones, the famous American actor, is well known for his distinctive bass and for his portrayal of characters of substance and leadership. Jones is also a registered Republican and was known by his political enemies as “the Darth Vader of the Republican Party.” (Referring to his voice work as Darth Vader of course.)
6. 50 Cent
50 Cent once said, “I actually like Bush. In some ways, I’m the George W. Bush of hip hop, nobody likes me, but I’m still gonna run it for the next four years.” The surprising hip-hop conservative even said George Bush is “incredible … a gangsta,” the rapper told GQ in 2005. “I wanna meet George Bush, just shake his hand and tell him how much of me I see in him.”
7. Karl Malone
Nicknamed “The Mailman,” Malone is a retired American professional basketball power forward and current assistant coach for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs college basketball team. In his basketball career, Malone spent his first 18 seasons (1985–2003) with the Jazz and formed a power duo with his teammate John Stockton. He played his final season (2003–04) with the Los Angeles Lakers. Beyond his skills on the court, Malone is registered Republican and greatly supports his party. In 2004, he donated $4,000 to the re-election campaign of President George W. Bush and $2,000 to the 2004 U.S. Senate campaign of Lisa Murkowski, a Republican from Alaska. In 2002, Malone donated $1,000 to the campaign of incumbent U.S. Representative Jim Matheson, a Democrat from Utah.
