Beverly Johnson, age 66

Beverly Johnson is another model that holds the title of ‘the first.’ While in college, Johnson pursued her interests in modeling. After landing her first modeling job with Glamour Magazine, she went on to appear on over 500 magazine covers. The most notable one was the August 1974 issue of Vogue, where she was the first African American model to be on the cover. This helped spearhead the movement of featuring more black models on magazine covers and on the runway. She eventually made the crossover to acting by landing roles in various films and TV shows. Johnson still gives her best strut on the runways during fashion week. More recently she was featured in Zendaya’s runway show with Tommy Hilfiger.
