The New York Post‘s Page Six reports that Wendy Williams has officially filed for divorce from husband Kevin Hunter. Her attorney confirmed the news. This news follows her decision to go without her ring for Thursday’s episode of The Wendy Williams Show (read about that below), as well as the news Hunter fathered a child outside of their relationship, and allegations from everyone but Williams of physical abuse. The couple wed in 1997, and they share son Kevin Hunter, Jr., who is 19.

Wendy Williams just did Thursday’s episode of her eponymous talk show without the huge wedding ring and band we’ve become so familiar with, and at this point, we’re not sure what to think. But not only did she not wear the ring, she went out of her way to show you that the ring had been removed and replaced with a floral ring fans are familiar with.
The 54-year-old’s hairstylist and makeup artist, Robyn Michele and Merrell Hollis, shared a video of them helping Wendy get ready for today’s show, and when the camera was put on her, she went out of her way to show fans that she was wearing her beloved flower ring instead. Fans were quick to ask the star, “Wendy…where is your ring?”
Back in March, Wendy said that her marriage to Kevin Hunter was fine, and people should only question it if they don’t see her with her ring on.
“I’m still very much in love with my husband, and anybody whose been married for five minutes or 500 years, you know marriages have ebbs and flows,” she said upon her return to her show on March 4. “Marriages are not easy. Don’t ask me about mine until you see this gone *points to ring* and it ain’t going anywhere. Not in this lifetime!”
When reports came out that her husband’s alleged longtime mistress, Sharina Hudson, had given birth to a baby girl on March 20, the star was seen coming out of her sober house without her ring, but still hosted the show with it on. This time around though, it seems more like an intentional move.
For the record though, this isn’t the first time Wendy has hosted her show without her ring on. Back in 2013 she accidentally left her ring and band set at home and during her after-show video, she said she was worried that people would think a “divorce is imminent.”
“I walked out of the house today without my wedding set,” she said at the time. “And we were already running late, our entire driveway was a sheet of ice…So already running late, plus I forgot my ring and there was no time to turn around. I was disgusted. Fortunately, I learned my lesson. I keep a band in my wallet, I never forget my wallet. Only a couple of the audience members asked me [about it],” she said before adding, “I felt terrible.”
In this case, it looks like she felt more liberated than anything.
We’ll have to wait and see if any of this turns into something that lets us know Wendy is leaving her marriage. There have been rumors that she’s been looking into a separation, but nothing has been confirmed. Stay tuned.
