Wendy Williams Returns To Talk Show, Addresses Reason For Hiatus And Rumors About Her Husband: “I Know What You’ve Been Saying”
Wendy Williams has returned to her eponymous talk show after being on hiatus since December. On Monday, Williams returned to her signature purple couch with a sleek bob, Valentino top and shoes, and a long black pleated skirt. The 54-year-old star looked refreshed, no sling, no slurring of words. She is back and has clearly taken good care of herself in the time she was gone.
Wendy teared up as the audience chanted her name before answering her own “How you doin’?!” by saying, “I’m doing better now. Let’s get started, because apparently, I’m a hot topic.”
Williams was grateful to be back in front of her studio audience, admitting she was worried that fans would have hit the road after she went mute for more than two months.
“I didn’t know what to expect when I hit the block today,” she said. “I didn’t know whether you would wait for me, whether you would understand. I had no idea what to expect. Thank you so much for waiting for us.”
As for what was behind her delayed return, Williams said it was a mixture of trying to get her thyroid medication right and doing the work to take her health seriously.
“What had happened was, we were only supposed to be off for two weeks for Christmas vacation. And towards the end of the two weeks, I started to feel thyroid-ish,” she said. “They’re still adjusting my meds and if you don’t know about thyroid disease, it’s a lifetime thing. They’re always adjusting and always doing stuff and they can really screw you over. So they’re adjusting my thyroid meds and then the eyeballs attach to the thyroid, which is my Graves’ disease, and then you know I always have the equilibrium thing with my vertigo and a million other things. And I’m the type of patient, if I cough, I’m thinking I’m dying. They pushed me in there, I got the MRIs, then I got the CAT scans, then they get me running on the treadmill, then they’re doing my blood pressure at the same time.”
With all that being said, she wanted you to know she’s much better, and happy that she took some time for herself.
“I have a plethora of doctors, my medical team, and I’m happy to tell you, I’m doing swell,” she said.
“I just wanted to take some time for myself.”
That time included taking her thyroid medication, meditating, going into the gym seven days a week for two hours a day and eating well. As she put it, “Mother has not gained a pound.”
She also took time out to show love to her husband, Kevin Hunter, who was rumored to be doing a whole host of things to Williams, from cheating on her to putting his hands on her as well. Williams, once again, had her husband’s back.
“I want to give a shout out to my husband, I’m still wearing my ring!” she said. “Believe me you, when you’ve been with somebody for 28 years, married for 25 years, and when we got married we waited four years before doing the baby project and stuff, so we know each other! He’s my best friend. He’s my lover, he’s all this and he’s all that. I know what you’ve been saying. And I know what the streets have been talking about. But hunty, let me show you who I fell in love with and who he fell in love with.”
Williams went on to show a throwback photo of herself with Hunter from the ’90s. She said he fell for her before the plastic surgery, before the weight loss, before the fame and everything else, and she’s still madly in love with him.
“I’m still very much in love with my husband, and anybody whose been married for five minutes or 500 years, you know marriages have ebbs and flows,” she said. “Marriages are not easy. Don’t ask me about mine until you see this gone *points to ring* and it ain’t going anywhere. Not in this lifetime!”
So with all that being said, Williams is happy, she’s healthy, and she’s back for good — to the delight of fans who were wondering if she’d ever return and at 100 percent.
“I’m sorry, but I have to say, it’s not going to happen anymore and I feel good!”
