Kerry Washington is really good at keeping her private life, just that – private. You’ve never, and we mean never ever, clearly seen her kids Isabelle and Caleb (or Nnamdi’s child from a previous relationship that she claims as her own), though she will talk openly about how her kids inspire her. And you aren’t going to get any insight into what her marriage to Nnamdi Asomugha is like. They married quietly in 2013 (in Idaho of all places), and Washington has always said you won’t hear her sharing much of anything about their relationship.

“If I don’t talk about my personal life, it means I don’t talk about my personal life,” she said in 2016. “That means not only did I not tell you when I was getting married, it also means if somebody has rumors about what’s going on in my marriage, I don’t refute them, because I don’t talk about my personal life.”

And while you may not see them together very often, the star’s happiest moments come from spending time with the kids and Nnamdi.

“I love being with my family,” she recently told Marie Claire. “My days off look like homework, reading and watching stuff.”

“Just hanging out,” she added, “doing things we love to do.”

But the pair decided to step away from their routine with the kids for a night out on the town together this week. They attended a special screening of If Beale Street Could Talk in New York on Monday with director Barry Jenkins and some of the cast. We may see the pair together infrequently, but when we do see them side by side, hand in hand, it’s a beautiful (and sometimes funny face-filled) thing.
