Before she wed partner Alex Niedbalski in 2008, comedian Wanda Sykes was married to record producer Dave Hall from 1991 to 1998. She said after splitting from Hall, she accepted her homosexuality and found her voice — including on stage.
“That did it,” she said. “It was a little scary at first, but it was what I had to talk about. I can’t stand up there and act like everything is fine and good. … It just had to come out, and doing it on stage just felt really good.”
