Talented Folks Who Make It Hard To Separate Their Work From Their Sordid Personal Lives
Remember the days when you used to watch Seinfeld and think that Kramer was hilarious? That was until he went on a rant in a nightclub against some black hecklers and screamed that they were nothing but “ni**ers.” I haven’t been able to look at him the same ever since. And similar side eyes are given to these talented Hollywood folks, whose antics and personal lives have become difficult to separate from their work.
This probably explains why he didn’t bother to show up to the Golden Globes on Sunday to accept his Cecil B. DeMille Award. While folks were applauding Woody Allen for his contributions to film, his ex-wife and son, Mia Farrow and Ronan Farrow were speaking openly about him being a child molester. And seeing that he is currently married to Farrow’s adopted daughter from a previous relationship, he’s probably going to have a hard time ever living that down. This man’s life has been the definition of scandal.
Who wasn’t absolutely enamored with Chris Brown before he put his hands on Rihanna? He was ever so cute, could sing and dance his behind off, and his talents had folks claiming he would be the next Michael Jackson for a new generation. How times have changed. Brown stays in the middle of drama these days, either because people are lying on him or because he lets his temper get the best of him. When he tries to get back on top and receives recognition for it, someone’s always there to remind him of his past. And in turn, he flips out. Here’s to hoping that anger management helps him get his life back on track.
This one is for me. I’m sorry, but I personally have to be done with Kells. I’ve done my share of stepping in the name of love over the years, but uh, I’m feeling some type of way these days. After reading about the allegations made about him over the years by young girls, growing up in Chicago and knowing people who ran into his flirtatious self in high school, I just can’t listen to his music without feeling dirty. He’s one of the most talented R&B musicians I’ve ever seen, but he’s also a troubled figure, and as long as he’s still out here singing about sex so boldy (“Marry The Pu**y” anyone?), I’m going to have to tune him out.
The Olympic hurdler and now bobsledder is a gifted athlete, no doubt, but as she prepares for the winter Olympics, others are focused on the messy 2013 she had. She proved herself to be something of a mean girl. During the George Zimmerman trial she compared Rachel Jeantel‘s difficult days of testimony to something out of a Tyler Perry movie, she scrapped with a woman in the club, and when a fan dressed up like her for Halloween she told her that getting a relaxer would make the girl look more like her. She’s talented, but at this point, when I hear the name Lolo Jones, I always think of Jeantel priceless statement: “Lolo Jones? She’s a hater.”
I used to loooove John Mayer’s music. His voice is silky smooth! But it was 2010 when I had to rethink my appreciation, because it was that year that John Mayer put his foot all the way down the back of his throat in that infamous Playboy interview. If you’ll recall, he not only spilled sex secrets about his ex, Jessica Simpson, but he used the N-word, and compared his sexual member to a white supremacist who won’t go near black women. Can we say all bad? Mayer would apologize and break down in tears over the whole thing, but still, to this day when you think Mayer, you might think douche. Let’s hope he doesn’t spill any secrets about Katy Perry and will just keep his mouth shut when it comes to anything that has nothing to do with his music.
I personally really like Steve Harvey. I think he’s funny and gives some good (albeit obvious) advice on love. But I’ve noticed that quite a few women can’t stand him because of the way things went down with his ex-wife, Mary, including claims that he cheated on her with his new wife, Marjorie, and the fact that Mary lost custody of their son together, Wynton. Any stories about love, including Harvey’s recent Essence cover with wife Marjorie, get quite the outspoken backlash.
To this day, people still throw shade at Alicia Keys when she posts pictures of herself with her hubby, Swizz Beatz. Of course, the couple started dating, she claims, when he was separated from his ex-wife, Mashonda. But Mashonda claimed that the couple was trying to work things out, and by dating Swizzy, Keys interfered in that.
“You know the role you played and you know how you contributed to the ending of my marriage. You know that I asked you to step back and let me handle my family issues. Issues that you helped to create.”
The couple have moved on from such shade though, and have their son, Egypt. But some people still have something nasty to say all these years later.
Well, duh. West is something of a creative genius (as hard as that is to admit), but he’s also quite the annoying figure. As if the rants weren’t enough, I don’t think anyone could ride for him after he tried to compare Michelle Obama to Kim Kardashian, and claimed that his lady had more influence. If he could focus on his music and just keep the foolishness to a minimum, he would be on the top of the music world. But his popularity went down 66 percent since he started dating Kim alone.
Poor Bobby. I used to ride for his albums big time, specifically Don’t Be Cruel because his voice and dance skills were epic. But these days? If he’s not getting arrested for DUIs and having people look at him crazy, folks are still blaming him for Whitney’s downfall. And it doesn’t help that in this day and age his voice has become a scratchy mess. Bobby just can’t win with people.
Does anybody look at Mel Gibson the same after those anti-Semetic remarks caught on tape? And what about him calling his ex-wife to say that she’s a pig who dresses like a sl*t and might get raped by a pack of ni**ers? I’m just saying. His career hasn’t been the same since, and it’s a shame. Lethal Weapon used to be my movie…
