Update from TMZ: Over 300 Pounds When He Died, Autopsy Set for Today

Update: Law enforcement said Heavy D. had just returned from a shopping trip and was climbing the stairs when he leaned over on the railing, claiming he couldn’t breathe. Adam, a designer who lived in the building, cradled the rapper and called the ambulance. Police are now stating that there was no foul play in Heavy’s death and the cause was medical.

Eddie F., a founding member of Heavy D. and the Boyz had this to say about his late friend.

“We were only young kids out of high school when we got into the game just wanting to make fun music filled with love and excitement.”

“We always had so much fun as a group. I cherish all the happy times we had together while unknowingly helping to build the movement and legacy we call Uptown Records” … adding, “I love you Hev and we all will miss you so much.”

The “Overweight Lover”/ Hip Hop veteran, Heavy D., passed away today at just 44 years old.

TMZ reports that the rapper, whose real name was Dwight Arrington Myers, was rushed to an L.A. hospital around noon and declared dead at 1 p.m.
