Is a relationship real and likely to last if you make it to the 10th date without having sex?
That’s the question in the new Lifetime movie Love By The 10th Date. I’m not one of those people who could stay in all day catching up on Lifetime movies, but I must say, this one looks like it’s worth a couple of hours of your time.
The TV movie, written and directed by Nzingha Stewart (With This Ring) is centered around the love exploits of four friends who work at a digital magazine in Los Angeles. Gabby, played by Meagan Good, and Nell, played by Kellee Stewart, find themselves inspired by an advice column on their site focused on what it takes to find the one. They go out in search of the right guy in the hopes that they can make it to the 10th date, which is deemed a true accomplishment in the film. The women see it as the mark that a relationship just might go the extra mile.
As for Billie, played by Keri Hilson, and Margot, played by Kelly Rowland, they’re trying to navigate trouble in an open marriage and fight feelings for people who, on paper, seem like anything but a catch. In all four women’s attempts to get their personal lives together, they end up having a better relationship with themselves, if nothing else, and figure out what it is they really want in love and life.
You’re probably thinking, “Another film about Black women trying to find love?” But according to Stewart, “it’s not the same movie.” The relationships are different (an open marriage alone sounds engrossing), and the faces (aside from Good’s) are unique to the small screen. But you can determine for yourself if this is more of the same or something different and unique when the TV movie premieres on January 28 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
