Her name is Storm Reid, and she is the star of Ava DuVernay’s upcoming Disney live-action film, A Wrinkle in Time. Based on the beloved children’s book by Madeleine L’Engle, Reid will play the protagonist, Meg Murry, who embarks on a sci-fi fantasy adventure to find her father, a scientist who’s gone missing. Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon will join Reid and round out the stellar cast. The inclusive and highly-anticipated film, for which DuVernay will make history as the first woman of color to direct a film with a budget of nearly $100 million, won’t hit theaters until sometime in 2017. But for now, you can read up on Storm Reid, a name you won’t soon forget.
First Film Role
Reid’s first feature film role came in 2013’s Academy Award-winning 12 Years a Slave. She played the role of Emily, the daughter of Adepero Oduye’s Eliza. Prior to 12 Years, Reid starred in several short films.
Very First Role
12 Years a Slave was Reid’s first film role, but her very first acting gig was for a commercial for PBS Kids Sprouts.
Creative Studios of ATL
When she was eight, Storm Reid attended Creative Studios of Atlanta and was accepted into their film academy. She eventually played a role in the academy’s film, Santa’s Boot Camp.
Keep It Real Acting
Reid also studied with Keep It Real Acting Studios in Los Angeles. She started getting callbacks for her auditions after her third class at the studios.
Moving to L.A.
Within a year of moving to Los Angeles, Reid booked two feature films, two short films and a role on a Nickelodeon show. Her mother, Robyn, thanked the CSA Film Academy for giving her a strong acting foundation.
Born to Do This
According to her IMDb page, Reid has wanted to act since she was three years old. She is now 13. Hopefully she has a long and fruitful career ahead of her!
Storm shot a pilot for a Nickelodeon TV show called Party Park. Following that experience, Reid signed an exclusive deal with Nickelodeon.
Reid appeared in two TV One films last year – The Summoning with Paula Jai Parker, and White Water, starring Larenz Tate and Sharon Leal.
In addition to acting, Reid is very much into martial arts, gymnastics, and hip-hop dance. Oh, and Rihanna 🙂
Along with A Wrinkle in Time, Reid will also be seen in the film A Happening of Monumental Proportions, starring Common.
