Giuliana Rancic started this year’s flurry of verbal celebrity missteps when she said that faux-dread wearing Zendaya Coleman looked like she smelled “like patchouli oil … or weed.”

But when Rancic followed those comments with one of Hollywood’s most heartfelt apologies, even her critics were tempted to let her off of the hook.
