MLK Would Be Proud: Celebrities Who Won’t Stay Silent On Injustices

Alongside fellow hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, Jay-Z parlayed his frustration with the Eric Garner and Michael Brown cases into tangible actions to effect change. The duo met with New York governor Andrew Cuomo to discuss the necessity of reform within the criminal justice system to ensure that young black men receive the same treatment and protections as their white counterparts. While we have months and possibly years to wait to see the impact their actions have, we give these two all the credit in the world for backing their words with pro-active and, hopefully, productive actions.
