We told you earlier this week that EJ Johnson underwent surgery in August to deal with his weight. Now, with the help of that gastric sleeve surgery, Johnson tells People that he’s already shed 50 pounds.

Johnson had his surgery five weeks ago and says that he’s been sticking to a much healthier diet and has been working out at least four to five times a week. The change has been “really exciting” according to the “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills” star, who first started considering weight loss surgery two years ago.

“Weight is something that I’ve been struggling with for pretty much all of my life.

Nothing was working and I wanted to make a more permanent decision to get back on track. But I wanted to wait until I was a little bit older to know how to handle myself afterwards.”

The 22-year-old doesn’t necessarily have a goal for his weight when it comes to a specific number. “I’ll just know when I look like what I want.”

And to get the look he wants, he has been doing dance cardio and Pilates and has a meal plan to stay on track. There’s cereal for breakfast and yogurt or string cheese for a snack. Tuna or chicken salads for lunch with protein shakes and yogurts for a snack later. And for dinner, he does fish or chicken with veggies. There’s no fried foods, no super fattening sugars, no bread and no alcohol (though his “Rich Kids” co-stars certainly throw back the liquor). His family, including his famous parents and sister Elisa, all of whom he lives with, have been keeping him on track.

It hasn’t been easy, but Johnson says it has been very nice to have control of his weight, his health and his life again:

“Being able to take control of my life again, take control of what I’m eating and my fitness is enlightening and empowering.”

And it’s all paying off big!
