Dude Where’s My Car? Celebs Who Had Their Cars Repossessed
When times get hard, one of the first things people stop paying is their car note and these stars are no exception because the repo man paid them a visit to retrieve their vehicles. Here are 15 celebs who had their cars repossessed.
In 2007, Sean Kingston had a hit song on his hands with his debut single “Beautiful Girls.” But this year it seems the Jamaican singer has really struggled financially. He has had not one, not two, but three cars repossessed. In early March, Kingston’s Mercedes Benz G-Class SUV was repossessed. Three weeks later his Bentley met the same fate and was towed while he was inside a swanky Hollywood hotel. And just this week Kingston’s Lambo was loaded up on a flatbed and carted away because he had behind payments on yet another vehicle.
It must be very nice to be gifted a luxury car. Until it’s taken away from you. Producer Scott Storch decided to give his former girlfriend Lil Kim a Bentley Continental GT in 2003. But the car wasn’t paid for outright and after five years, Storch fell behind on payments and the car was taken away from Lil Kim.
First he was Lil Bow Wow. Then he was just Bow Wow. Now going by his government name, Shad Moss hopefully has better financial days ahead of him. Even though he’s been starring in movies and making music for a decade and a half, the Ohio native went through some money woes two years ago. The “106 & Park” host had his Lamborghini Murcielago repossessed. He was also crying broke that same year claiming he was unable to pay his court ordered $3,000 a month child support.
Shad Moss’ mentor Jermaine Dupri wasn’t able to bail his protégé out because he was having some money issues of his own. The So So Def founder had his Lamborghini Murcielago repossessed in 2011. But he still owed the bank the balance, which was almost $80,000 and Premier Financial Services took the superproducer to court for the money. Proving that when it rains, it pours, Dupri’s financial woes didn’t end there because the IRS came after him and the $800,000 that he owed Uncle Sam.
Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins
While most stars had their luxury cars repossessed, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins was being less flashy and opted to push around a Honda Odyssey minivan. After falling on hard times, the TLC member filed for bankruptcy but she didn’t get the full protection for Chapter 11 because she didn’t finish the process. In 2012, the bank sued her for defaulting on payments and her 2005 minivan was repossessed.
Method Man first emerged on the scene with eight other rappers as part of the Wu-Tang Clan. Even though he’s made tons of money with the group, as a solo artist and as an actor, Method Man didn’t pay all of his taxes and Uncle Sam came looking for him in 2009. The “All I Need” rapper failed to file for his taxes several years in a row and the IRS took his 2008 Lincoln Navigator in order to help pay back a portion of what he owed.
As one of the original cast members of “Basketball Wives,” Jennifer Williams began to experience a bit of the fame that her former baller husband enjoyed. But even though she was making money on her own it wasn’t enough to make the payments on her Bentley Continental. According to the reality television star, her ex-husband stopped making payments during their long, drawn out divorce proceedings and the car was repo’d and sold at an auction.
Rappers brag about the women they get and the cars they drive and for Young Dro, it was no different. He was riding around in his dream car. That is until it was repossessed. Two summers ago, the “Shoulder Lean” rapper lost his 2007 Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT to the repo man after he defaulted on payments. By the time the bank took possession of the car, the Atlanta rapper owed more than $60,000 in back payments.
There’s having your car repossessed and then there’s watching your vehicle be towed away from your video shoot with everyone looking on. That’s exactly what happened to Diamond. The Atlanta rapper was on the set of her video shoot in 2010. Everyone watched when her yellow Chevy Camaro was loaded up on the flatbed while the cameras were rolling. Undeterred, she later released a track for her haters called “Shots Fired.”
Terrell Owens made a name for himself on the football field but he’s been having a hard time getting himself and his finances together. After retiring from the NFL, Owens signed with a minor football league but after he was shown the door, the top brass at the Allen Wranglers proceeded to take back everything they gave him. Including the house they provided for him and the 2012 Jeep Wrangler that he was allowed to drive.
50 Cent gave Young Buck a chance by signing him on to his G-Unit label imprint. But soon Fiddy fell out with the Memphis rapper and kicked him out of the crew and off of the label in 2008. Since then Buck has struggled to support himself. His possessions were auctioned off after the IRS raided his home and he was forced to file for bankruptcy. In 2011, Buck’s 2002 BMW X5 was repossessed because fell seven months behind in payments and owed $7,000.
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino
After fist-pumping in clubs up and down the Jersey shore, Mike Sorrentino became a star and rich along the way. But at the top of 2012, he had a financial situation on his hands when his Bentley was repossessed. Initially his publicist said the car was in the shop for repairs but the tow company confirmed that the car was repossessed and was running just fine.
