While it’s not the norm to have a slew of R&B singers in a Summer Jam line-up, songstress Aaliyah was given some stage time in 2000 but she almost missed her turn in the spotlight. The “One In A Million” singer was running so late for the show that by the time she arrived, her dancers didn’t have a chance to change out of their street clothes. But the crowd was unaware of the near disaster that was going on backstage. Aaliyah performed for the crowd and that would be her last time at Summer Jam; she died in a private plane crash the next year.
