Black Music Month Spotlight: Ester Dean

Super Bass– Nicki Minaj

I know this song was Nicki’s first mainstream hit–white folks loved this one–but it’s probably one of my favorite Nicki songs even it’s a bit left of her regular hard core Hip Hop sound. The song was written by Minaj, Ester Dean, Roahn Hylton, and Daniel “Kane Beatz” Johnson. And though she isn’t’ credited as a feature, that’s Dean singing the vocals on the chorus. You already know the song was a hit. It started on the Billboard Hot 100 at 98 and peaked at number 3, spending 39 weeks on the charts. In 2012, it was certified octuple platinum with more than 4 million digital copies sold.
