Now that we are a couple of weeks into the new year many of us have probably made and broken a few resolutions to do something better in our lives. One very popular promise many of us make is to get in shape in an attempt to keep things snatched and looking cute. Did you know that there are certain jobs that can help you on your fitness endeavors? Now this doesn’t mean you should skip a session at the gym, or that you’re going to run out and take one of these jobs. But, hey, good to know. Here are some jobs that burn the most calories.
[h/t]
Commercial Diver
According to Monster.com, commercial divers can burn some serious calories, more than 700 an hour an hour that can reach over 700. This is not to be confused with commercial drivers who transport goods to and from places (they do good work too), but divers who build and maintain platforms for the oil and gas industry.
Forestry
Have you ever tried to lift an ax let alone attempt to chop wood? It’s crazy heavy! Much to no one’s surprise when it comes to burning good calories is the forestry profession with tasks that include wood chopping, log carrying and tree trimming among others. On average many individuals in this industry can burn 500 to 1000 calories and above an hour. Yikes.
Farmer
Old MacDonald must have some serious guns because farming ain’t no joke. When you consider daily tasks that often include cleaning after animals and moving hay, you could see why those in the industry can burn around 475 calories an hour.
Firefighter
Okay so the cast of NBC’s Chicago Fire are definitely hot actors paid to look good, but real life firefighters can look just as dreamy thanks to their occupation. On average, firefighters are known to sweat off calories upwards of 700 calories carrying heavy gear, climbing ladders and carrying the occasional person that needs rescuing.
Parcel delivery
Even though companies like UPS are still on some people’s lists for failed holiday deliveries, you do have to give the delivery men and women some credit for carrying all of those packages. Whether big or small, they are notorious for climbing stairs and lifting heavy boxes which is why they can burn anywhere from 300 to 500 calories an hour.
Masseuse
Could you be on your feet all day constantly rubbing someone down? Think about the hand cramps! Yet those in the spa services industry are accustomed to many minutes and even hours on their toes as they provide the much-needed pampering services we all crave. So just how much can a masseuse burn in an hour? While it may vary, the average calories burned falls around 200.
Physical Instructor
As with any activity you get what you put into it and physical instructors are no different. Ranging in profession from a physical education teacher to those personal trainers we love to hate, their calories burned an hour can range anywhere from 200 to 400 and upwards. It all depends on how involved they get in the activity they instruct. We’ve always admired those spin instructors who pedal along with the class.
Baker
You might not consider this profession to be as labor-intensive as others, but when you compare the average calories burned an hour (around 200 depending on the effort) with construction workers (average around 290 calories burned an hour), it’s not that far off. Bakers tend to stand on their feet for a good amount of the day and have to bend and lift materials putting them in the oven on a regular basis.
Animal grooming
While most of us probably don’t have a friend that is in the horse grooming business, from the looks of things they put in some serious work making sure those steeds are looking their best. On average many groomers can burn close to 350 calories an hour which isn’t too shabby. Since horses are hard to come by, maybe dog grooming is more accessible. Bathing your dog will burn a cool 80 calories.
