Madame Rashad has been a vegetarian since she was a teenager. Her mother became a vegetarian when she met a Hindu professor who spoke about the benefits of an animal-less diet. She then passed the recipes down to her children. In 1988 Vegetarian Times reported that her diet and meditation gave her inner peace.
