The film “The Great Debaters” gave a glimpse into the life of Henrietta Bell Wells. Jurnee Smollett’s character Samantha Booke was loosely based on Wells’ life. She was the first African-American woman on the debate team at the historically black Wiley College in Texas and she was a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
