Beautiful, young, and an in-demand Hollywood actress, Dorothy Dandridge seemed to have it all. She was the first African-American actress to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. She died from a drug overdose of the tricyclic antidepressant, melipramine. It was September 8, 1965, several hours after talking with long-time friend, Gerry Brantonfound. Her body was discovered in her West Hollywood flat at 42 years old.
