Jada & Grant, Christina & Jamie: Did You Know They Dated? Celeb Couples We Didn’t Know Were Booed Up

Nia Long and Chris Webber

Somebody definitely has a thing for ballers! Long dated Chris Webber from 1993 to 1995 (see pic from that time here). The two allegedly met at a basketball game and had a pretty serious relationship, one that almost came full circle with marriage. It’s unclear why that didn’t occur, but after dating Tyra Banks later from 2001 to 2004, he finally settled down with his wife Erika in 2009. Nia is currently in a relationship with another basketball player, Ime Udoka, who she has been with since 2009 and has a son with–baby Kez.

Coko and Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler

While his name might not immediately ring a bell, “Butterfly” was the lead lyricist in the group, Digable Planets, known for the song “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat).” The lead singer of SWV and Butler were dating in the mid-90s, and while it’s not clear why things went south, she spoke in a Honey Magazine interview about them being an odd pair, but says they had a tight bond:

“People would ask us, ‘What do y’all talk about?’ because we’re really different,” says Coko of her ex. A shy laugh gets caught in her voice. “I watch TV, he doesn’t. I eat fried food and pork. He doesn’t. So some things were really weird, but he taught me a lot and he learned some things from me. But I think we were too different for it to really last.” Coko smiles as she talks of him, and though she initially claimed she was mad at Ishmael at the time of the interview, it’s clear the two are still good friends.

“He’s a good father,” she continues, “and he was special. We have a special bond, a special relationship.” Raising her eyebrows and lightening her tone, she adds, “He’s a good man. He’s going to make somebody a good husband.”

They had a son together in 1997, his name is Jazz (check him out here).
