A Baltimore mother says she was left “shaking” with fear after a young white boy allegedly ran into her inside a Walmart while carrying a fake gun. The situation escalated when the boy was detained by a Black police officer and allegedly directed racial slurs, including the N-word, at the officer.

Young White boy hurls N-word at officer in Baltimore after fake gun incident: What happened?

According to the Atlanta Black Star, footage of the encounter was reportedly filmed by a woman named @AmberMistarr on TikTok, although she appears to have since changed her handle to @EmpathAmber. The video was shared on TikTok on Aug. 14 and quickly sparked reactions from viewers. It remains unclear whether the woman filming the video is Amber.

In the viral footage, a Black police officer can be seen detaining a young white boy following the alleged encounter with the mother. The boy appears visibly upset and can be heard yelling at the officer while repeatedly using the N-word.

Throughout the Walmart encounter, a woman believed to be the person filming can be heard explaining why she began recording. She tells the boy, “I’m recording for your protection. Somebody call 911.”

The woman, who said she was shopping with her daughter, also gave her account of what happened as the officer attempted to restrain the child.

“He ran into me with that fake gun of his. See me shaking,” the woman says. “And then he’s calling me N-words and everything else? I don’t think so.”

She later confronted the boy directly, saying:

“Who are you talking to with that language? You don’t call [the officer] the N-word, number one. Number two, you ran into me. With that,” she said, referring to the alleged fake gun. “You’re lucky you didn’t get hit.”

Several bystanders questioned why the child was allegedly carrying a fake weapon and called for authorities to involve Child Protective Services and connect him with mental-health resources.

The young white boy was allegedly involved in another fake gun incident at a Dollar Tree in July.

The Walmart incident also appeared to connect to an earlier confrontation at a Dollar Tree. The woman filming the Walmart video said she recognized the boy from the viral clip and captioned her post: “He went viral last week at Dollar Tree doing this and I recognized him. These kids in Baltimore need guidance.”

In late July, the boy was reportedly filmed in a heated confrontation with a Black Dollar Tree employee after allegedly being removed from the store. The child was again reportedly seen with what appeared to be a fake gun, noted The Atlanta Black Star.

A Black woman who goes by “myamya3000” uploaded footage of that encounter to TikTok on July 24. When she asked the boy what was wrong, he allegedly responded: “I’m trying to buy some f–king toothpaste for my f–king sister.”

Social media users sound off about the video.

The Walmart video prompted strong reactions online, with many viewers criticizing the child’s behavior and debating whether the situation was primarily a parenting issue, a mental-health concern, or both.

“That’s not mental health issue. That’s a parental issue,” one user wrote.

“That’s a reflection of his parents,” another user commented.

Others focused on what they viewed as racial disparities in how children are treated by law enforcement. Some argued that a Black child in a similar situation might have faced a more severe response.

“Arrest and book his ass. Y’all wouldn’t hesitate with a Black child, don’t hesitate with him cause of his skin color!” one viewer wrote.

Another commenter simply penned, “Tamir Rice was shot,” referencing the 12-year-old Black boy who was fatally shot by a white Cleveland police officer in 2014 after police responded to a report of someone carrying what turned out to be a toy gun.

The viral Walmart footage has sparked a much larger conversation about parenting, youth behavior, fake weapons, mental-health intervention and whether race affects how children are treated during encounters with police.
