Men, and plenty of women, too, are all saying the same thing: there’s one surprisingly simple look that instantly makes a woman more attractive. It isn’t a specific outfit, hairstyle, or makeup trend. Instead, it’s a tiny detail that has people admitting it drives them absolutely crazy: wearing sunglasses on top of your head.
Why is wearing sunglasses on top of your head attractive to both men and women?
The conversation exploded on May 25 after TikTok creator @lifewithlexi08 asked viewers what the female equivalent of a man wearing a backward baseball cap is. Thousands of people jumped into the comments, and one answer appeared again and again: sunglasses pushed up on top of a woman’s head.
“My husband says sunglasses on my head (specifically when my hair is down) and/or a milkmaid dress (idk if that’s what it’s actually called, but that’s what I call the style),” one social media users shared of her husband’s love for the stylish look.

One male user instantly agreed:
“This! Sometimes I’ll be doing something and I’ll hand my girl my sunglasses to hold for a second. She puts them on her head and it pushes her hair back/ tucks it behind her ears. It makes me melt, can’t help but kiss her when she does it haha.”
Some women also felt Lexi’s take was spot on.
“Sunglasses up in your hair like a headband. Gives an unmatched look,” one woman penned.
Another added, “Funny bc I only feel pretty with my sunglasses as headband.”

Why does this look so hot?
For many commenters, it wasn’t about designer shades or a perfectly styled look. It was the effortless way they’re worn, quickly pushed into the hair after coming inside or stepping out of the sun, with little thought given to whether every strand is in place. That casual, lived-in appearance seemed to be what people found so appealing.
That confidence may actually be part of the appeal. When someone casually tosses their sunglasses into their hair without overthinking it, the gesture comes across as natural rather than carefully curated. Studies have found that confidence that appears effortless is often perceived as more attractive than confidence that seems overly rehearsed because it suggests authenticity and comfort with oneself.
A 2013 study found that confidence plays a key role in how people view themselves and their relationships. Researchers found that people who felt more confident in their ability to attract and maintain a romantic partner also tended to have higher self-esteem. The study also found that self-perceived attractiveness, confidence in one’s appearance, and body-esteem were all linked to higher self-esteem. In each case, romantic self-confidence helped explain the connection, suggesting that feeling desirable as a partner can have a meaningful impact on overall self-worth
It’s the same reason people often compare the look to a backward baseball cap. The accessory itself isn’t necessarily what catches people’s attention, it’s the relaxed attitude it represents. The sunglasses simply become part of that effortless vibe.
There’s also a scientific explanation for why sunglasses are flattering in general. Vanessa Brown, a design and visual culture lecturer at Nottingham Trent University, explained to Marie Claire in 2017 that sunglasses can make faces appear more symmetrical and your bone structure look extra chiseled, a feature people tend to associate with attractiveness. They also make the eyes look “softer and less flawed,” the expert said.
But the viral TikTok discussion suggests there’s another layer to it. What people were really reacting to wasn’t just the sunglasses, it was the simple, spontaneous act of pushing them onto your head, creating a look that feels confident, casual, and completely unforced — and that’s where the spark lies.
