From limiting screen time to changing wellness practices from diet to physical routine, many people have wholly or partially discarded some of the practices implemented as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic (don’t let us get started on companies ditching their DEI plans), but not Elaine P. Allen Landy.

After discovering a little extra back fat during the height of the pandemic, Landy made herself a promise to take better care of herself. She quickly advocated for health and wellness, explicitly encouraging women over 40 to move their bodies daily to foster better well-being.

“It was June 2020, during COVID, let me tell you, I looked in the mirror that day during the lockdown, and I saw some back fat there, and I said, Oh, hell no,” she recalled during an interview with Madamenoire. “At the time, they said you shouldn’t go out, so I went to the park and started working alone. They had some tires there, so that’s where my love of tires was born, and then before I knew it, I had people joining me.”

“‘Are you a trainer? Do you train?’” Landy says people began asking. “I used to train back in the day, but that was then. It had been years, but I said, sure, come on and join. Before you knew it, I had 15 people in the park working out with me, and then somebody said, ‘Well, just start posting.’ I said okay, and I started posting. And now I’m close to 180,000 followers on Instagram alone.”

For her, focusing on women over 40 is necessary because of the societal pressures they face, explicitly being programmed to think that your life is starting to slow down and thinking it’s entirely over at age 50, which Landy believes is absurd!

Moreover, at age 59, Landy entered the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica pageant, putting action behind her talk that life simply gets better as you age, and no one can convince her otherwise!

Moreover, as the author of The Ageless Athlete: How to Stay Fit and Healthy at Any Age and an eBook on healthy meal plans, Landy is putting action behind her desire to help others develop a healthy lifestyle that best suits them.

“I wanted my ladies over 50 and men over 50 to know that life is just starting,” said Landy. “You know, enjoy yourself. You don’t want to sit down like it was back in the day. As a grandma sitting on the couch, the grandkids come to you. No, you want to travel with the grandkids. You want to travel with your kids. And I got married at 57, so I didn’t want to sit down with my new husband, not doing anything. I want to be active. Sex good, everything good, you know what I mean?”

Landy is doing everything but sitting still! As the vice president and wellness director at Evolution3, she advocates for health and wellness and works within the music industry to ensure that artists prioritize their well-being.

“You know, you would think that they might know it, but they don’t implement it in their life,” she said of musicians and their approach to overall wellness from both a mental and physical standpoint. “The few of them that I have had the opportunity to work with so far, they know nothing. They don’t know about eating. They don’t know about health. So I’ve had to sit down and assemble a program for one of our artists that just won. I’m putting together a program for him and his partner to get him on the road to wellness because all he does is eat. Many think they eat healthy, but they don’t look at the ingredients of the foods, and they think processed food is healthy because it says fat-free.”

She stressed the importance of paying attention to food labels and understanding that diet, exercise, and fitness are mental matters.

Alongside her husband, Morace Landy, the pair is making waves within the music industry through his Evolution3 imprint. This full-service company offers artist development, promotions, marketing, touring, and a comprehensive suite of services to help artists build lasting careers.

Having worked with some of the biggest names in music, including Mariah Carey, Missy Elliott, Ciara, Jay-Z, the late Luther Vandross, and a host of others, Morace knows a lot about helping individuals take their talent to the next level through a successful music career. Together, Morace and Elaine launched Vybe Vault R&B in 2024. The cutting-edge artist showcase platform is dedicated to discovering and developing the next generation of R&B stars through quarterly showcases and a comprehensive mentorship program.

“My husband’s been in the industry for decades, and he was getting tired of what he was doing,” said Landy. “He wanted something different. So, he became antsy, and we just sat down and started brainstorming. We just started putting this idea together in one of our brainstorming sessions. Like, why don’t we just do something where we can showcase these artists and bring back R&B? R&B has been on the back shelf for a while, and a lot of artists want to bring it back.”

She added, “There are many people on Instagram and TikTok. They’re singing their hearts out, but they’re not being seen because, number one, their numbers are not high. Outstanding artists are out there, and we have seen it for ourselves. This latest showcase was unbelievable.”

With Vybe Vault RnB, the goal is to continue catering to the unsigned and the unseen by giving them a chance to showcase themselves.

Whether through health and wellness or helping to discover new talent in R&B, Landy’s motto over the years has become, “It’s never too late to rewrite your story.”

Through her journey, she aims to show people the power of not being confined toone’s past and that it is never too late to fulfill one’s dreams and passions.
