Black women have been curating the party vibes since the beginning of time. Unsurprisingly, they’re also the masterminds behind various products in the wine and spirit industry, including vodka.
According to Pronghorn, the stand-alone business created to build the first-ever blueprint on how to diversify any industry, starting with the Black community in the spirits industry, Black people only make up 8% of the industry’s labor force, with only 2% accounting for the executives in the space despite representing 12% of consumers responsible for spending their dollars on wines and spirits industry products nationwide.
As the culture celebrates National Vodka Day on Oct. 4, it is important to take time to highlight the Black women-owned brands available to patrons all over the nation. From Maryland to New York, these ladies are behind some of the new vodka offerings awaiting you (21 and up, of course, because we drink responsibly over here).
To commemorate National Vodka Day, MadameNoire has a list of new, Black women-owned vodka brands to support moving forward.
Delta Dirt Distillery
A family-owned, craft distillery located in the Arkansas Delta, this brand offers a range of spirits and is even responsible for growing its own produce and grains within the same area where the authentic spirits are distilled. The Williams family has been farming in the same Phillips County for four generations, keeping it among loved ones.
HH Bespoke Spirits
Stemming from the Black family behind Harlem Haberdashery, the famed boutique storefront of custom apparel brand 5001 Flavors, HH Bespoke Spirits has a collection of spirits in its portfolio. Its brands range from rum to gin and, of course, vodka.
Look Vodka
Founded by Washington, D.C.’s Carmelita Hilliard, this brand of vodka is hand-crafted and premium, made from corn, making it gluten-free. Additionally, Look Vodka is sourced using natural ingredients and has flavors that range from mango to apple, strawberry, and beyond.
Black Momma Vodka
Developed and created by first Black woman Master Distiller and Master Blender, Vanessa Braxton, this brand’s flagship vodka is 80 proof, distilled and filtered five times to achieve its signature, smooth taste.
FOU-DRÈ Vodka
Described as a vodka that creates an experience for the consumers, FOU-DRÈ’s distillation process, finish, eco-friendly packaging and said to cause no hangovers is on the market to make drinking fun again. Each of the fruit flavors are infused through an all-natural patented TerrePURE process.
