It’s necessary to practice self-care and occasionally indulge on yourself or others. However, if these small (or large) expenses are not properly budgeted, they can pile up and cause financial hardship. Julien Saunders of Richandregular.com is dishing out some hot advice on how to enjoy guilty pleasures while saving money, also known ass how to ball-out on a Budget.

When it comes to food, it is always preferable to prepare it at home. “Food is the third largest expense in our budget,” Julien says. Although you won’t become the next Perfect Chief, taking the time to master one cooking skill, such as sautéing, “it will be easier to make things like pasta or a quick vegetable dish.”

Several apps now provide budgeting services that allow you to “round up your charges to the next dollar and invest that money in the stock market” Saunders mentions. That way, even if you buy the cutest pair of pants or the most recent pair of Jordans, you can still save money. Other suggestions include asking family or friends to borrow something you’ll only use once, because it is possible to save money and treat yourself!

When deciding if you are a spender or a saver, begin to give yourself some leeway. Why make a choice when you can be both? It’s difficult to have fun when you’re continuously thinking about a bill you forgot to pay or a debt that’s due. “Focus on income; the more money you have, the more income you have coming into that household!” says Saunders. Then it will be easier and faster to pay off those loans. Other suggestions include focusing on income utilization and having open conversations about finances with your significant other.
