We’ve professed our love for the Huxtable family and The Cosby Show before; so it should come as no surprise that we just can’t leave them alone. Before it was all about the clothes, but now we’re talking about the hair. It’s no secret that The Cosby show pushed the envelope when it came to innovative hair styles for black women. If you were old enough to style your own tresses at the time this show aired, then chances are you were inspired to recreate one or more of these fly looks.

Curly Ques

We know the Cosby show was fantasy because although Clair was a mother of five, an attorney and wife, we rarely saw her hair in a ponytail, much less looking crazy and unkempt. In this look Clair sports tightly bound curls all over her head, with a few tendrils in the front. Lovely, right?

Asymmetrical Afro

THIS is how you rock an afro! I can only imagine the time and effort little black girls around the world spent trying to get their kinky tresses to look like Vanessa’s full and fierce fro. The appeal behind this look is only made better by the fact that Vanessa’s (Tempest’s) hair looks soo thick and healthy. You’ve got to love that!

Spiraling Out of Control

Ever the wild child, Denise’s hair always reflected her spunky, yet carefree style. This look of curls twisting and turning in different directions is no exception.

Too Cute

If you remember Rudy had a lot of hair when she was a little girl. When she was younger they kept it in those silky braids but once she got older you could see her wearing it out and blown straight.

The Swirl

If you want your everyday bob to make a statement, this is the way to do it. While this slight swoop to the side is relatively simple, it makes this hair style so much more memorable.

The Bang

We can’t forget little Olivia! Even though Raven Symone was practically a baby when she played this role, there were many times when she stole scenes with her wise-beyond-her-years wit. These curly bangs are you giving us everything! And we can’t forget the yellow hair tie.  Scrunchies and the like may be outdated today but they were all the rage in the early ’90s.

Mother and Daughter Fresh

Vanessa’s hair is cute in the above photo, that upward flip was a mainstay of hers for a while, but it’s Clair’s forward facing do, with the contrasting smooth and curly textures, that is stealing the show in this picture. It’s elegant and sassy all at the same time.

She’s Stacked

Sure Clair’s face is looking a little crazy in this shot, but her hair is on point. The fluff and stack of those bangs is a force to reckoned with.

The Wrap

Any black girl will tell you that the wrap can be very important in the life of your hair. When you’re having a less than stellar hair day, a wrap will make you look put together and eclectic. You have to keep one on deck.

For the Fellas

If you thought this was just about the ladies, Theo is in the house to shut that theory down with a quickness. Not only was he rocking a high top fade, he added a twist to it with that mean slant. It was soo nice he had to feature his likeness on the sweatshirt. We see you Theo… twice.

Shocking
Some of you might look at this look and think that Denise stuck her finger in a socket but you have to appreciate the confidence it takes to rock this stuck-straight-out short cut.

Curly Fro

I cannot tell you how much I love this look! It’s the shape, it’s the texture, it’s the line. Essentially this look is the bee’s knees. It’s like organized chaos and it fit Vanessa’s face oh so well.
