Monica may be going through a divorce, but please save your sympathy for someone else because the working mom says she’s good. Period.

“I’m okay. I’m really okay with everything that’s happening personally and professionally,” the Georgia native said during an interview with V-103’s “The Morning Culture.” “And typically, one ain’t right when the other one is, but at this point, I understand that nothing happens for nothing. So every day, I wake up with purpose.”

The “So Gone” singer certainly has her hands full. Aside from divorcing her husband of nine years, Shannon Brown, she is recording an album, filming a reality TV show, and preparing her kids for back-to-school.

“Before, I would have never been able to come to work on my kids’ first day of school,” she shared. “But we’re able to find a level of balance and purpose that just keeps me motivated and moving.”

Despite having a full load, the 38-year-old is very adamant about not blurring the lines between her home life and work life.

“I don’t do anything at home. I don’t record at home. I don’t rehearse at home,” she shared. “Home is home. It’s the place where the only thing that I am is mom. That’s it.”

In fact, Brown is so committed to keeping home and work separate that she continues to live way out in the country and commutes into the city on a daily basis for work. One thing that has helped the singer to balance it all was her decision to continue sharing a home with her soon-to-be-ex-husband.

“You gotta take a back seat to what your children need. School is starting,” she said. “Things are happening, so who’s more important here? I’m not saying that it’s easy but when it’s not easy, it’s not anybody’s business either.”

As for how the pair are able to maintain such an expert level of post-breakup civility, the singer had this to say:

“For some people, when something doesn’t work, they allow all of the negative things to take complete control. I don’t allow those things to take complete control.”
