You might know Hennessy Carolina from her famous big sister, Cardi B…but the Bronx beauty is a rising star in her own right. Boasting over 4M followers, the 23-year-old post’s photos of her fashion, videos flexing (often with Cardi B.’s music serving as the background) and her overall life. If you think that she’s living in her sisters shadow…you must not follow Hennessy Carolina who is in her own lane and thriving.
One thing you notice about the social media star and tv personality is that her fashion isn’t for the faint of heart. She takes risks, wearing sexy styles and in your face prints. Whether or not she’s accompanied by Cardi, you see Hennessy front row at some of the biggest fashion shows. This NYFW, we caught up with stylist, AmiraaVee, who is responsible for putting together ensembles for Hennessy. While you might think her style is more out there, AmiraaVee shares otherwise. “The overall style direction that I am aiming to create for Hennessy would be the Fashion Girl Next Door. She loves fashion and has a great eye for fashion, so it’s just about becoming fashion.” It’s an interesting aesthetic description for the girl with head-turning looks who is from the Bronx and gives you girl next door…with an oomph. “Every time she steps out a style moment is created casually and effortlessly.”
For her New York Fashion Week looks, AmiraaVee explained that “half of her looks this season were daring/interesting, while the remainders were fun yet still mature.” They kicked off the season with the Jeremy Scott fashion show. AmiraaVee revealed, “I got the chance to make selections from Jeremy’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection.”
Hennessy wore a matching neoprene distressed 2 piece set which AmiraaVee styled in a way that made Jeremy Scott whisper to Hennessy backstage that this look was one of his favorite looks. AmiraaVee explained, “I threw off the color scheme with yellow embellished Marskinryyppy open toe heels along with Rad + Refined tinted yellow sunglasses.”
Hennessy attended Kim Shui show wearing a Fall/Winter 2018 black leather and fur lapeled jacket to the show. AmiraaVee showed that thigh-high boots can also be remixed as your pants. She styled her in Jennifer Lee thigh-high boots, an Ann Turk calf skinned purse, a Dylanlex choker, and Sterling King NY earrings.
The third show Hennessy attended was Dirty Pineapple. AmiraaVee planned a “mature, aesthetically pleasing ensemble which entailed a slight edge.” They paired the Dirty Pineapple blazer with a DP white button up and accessories including a lip ring and broach.
Hennessy Carolina couldn’t stay for all of NYFW, because she had to head off to support big sister Cardi B. for what turned out to be a historical night. The 61st Annual Grammy Awards, AmiraaVee revealed was “prepped for in less than 24 hours” but “this was a true test to how I can execute under pressure.” And execute she did.
Hennessy was dressed in a Kaiman tangerine blazer dress, holographic Louboutin shoes and Joy Reign jewelry. AmiraaVee shared, “I wanted her to make a fashion statement and show up for her sister while still carrying her own light.”
AmiraaVee has been the style architect for Hennessy Carolina since August 2018 for the Video Music Awards in NYC. “Patientce (her manager and publicist) reached out to me asking for NYC based designers to create a custom look for Hennessy for the VMAs.” AmiraaVee was about to respond with a list and then realized that this could be her big moment. Seizing the opportunity, she offered to personally take over styling Hennessy for the occasion to “relieve some stress.” Patientce agreed and that’s how the working relationship began. “I flew from LA to NYC that next morning and worked in a 48 hour turnover time to deliver what ended up being Hennessy and I’s first ‘Best Dressed’ VMA moment.”
AmiraaVee has shot to success in a short span of time, “just about a year and a half now professionally,” she admits to Madame Noire. “I initially got into this career path from people constantly asking me to style them based on their love for my personal style.” It wasn’t until her “dear friend” Kollin Carter (stylist to Cardi B.) brought AmiraaVee on to assist him at the beginning of Kollin and Cardi’s working relationship in 2017. She continues, “My love for the hands-on experience grew and made me decide to take this on as a profession.” It’s crazy that it hasn’t even been two years for AmiraaVee in the world of styling. Almost as if she realizes the quick trajectory she adds, “it’s been good to me ever since.”
