Many stars who broke into the entertainment industry with gap-toothed smiles or chipped teeth have, as the years have gone on, decided to get them made over. Take for example, Keyshia Cole, Nas, and Fabolous. Now model, entrepreneur and Kylie Jenner’s BFF, Jordyn Woods, can be added to that list.

In December 2018, she decided to have work done to close her teeth, seeking out LA-based dentist Dr. Kam Kamangar, who equipped her with veneers and changed her smile. According to the 21-year-old, who spoke to Refinery29 about her new look, “I just woke up one morning and decided to do it.”

But her choice didn’t come without some criticism from fans. Woods had previously said that she wasn’t going to “fix my gap to blend in with the rest of society!” after she found commenters online telling her to fix her teeth. In fact, she emphatically said, “My gap makes me who I am,” back in 2017. So when she popped up with a new smile, people asked her why, told her they missed her gap, and said the gap made her stand out. Some even claimed she was being “fake.”

The real reason behind the change though, according to Woods, was that she wanted to do something different. Just that simple. It had nothing to do with her not being confident in her look.

“I never disliked my smile or anything — I wanted to try something new and I found the doctor that I trusted,” she told the publication. “It may take a second for people to get used to it, but life is about evolving. It was a bittersweet thing. I wouldn’t say it’s better or anything — it’s just the new version of me.”
Woods actually tried to minimize the appearance of her gap in the past using Invisalign, but the results weren’t what she desired. But she was so pleased with Dr. Kamangar’s work that she’s teamed up with him to offer a full smile transformation, like the one she underwent, to a fan (the winner will be announced on March 1).
No matter what people make of her decision to close her gap, Woods is happy with what she sees when she smiles, and really, that’s all that matters.
“Once you do decide to make that change, you just have to move forward and understand this is who you are now, and you can’t compare things to how they used to be,” she said. “At the end of the day, you’re the person that has to live with yourself, so do what makes you happy.”
