Nylon Magazine has launched their second annual Black History Month issue and the cover star is How To Get Away With Murder actress Aja Naomi King. She is queening on the cover, wearing all white, looking regal with a head wrap and an Alena Akhmadullina dress and statement chandelier Roxanne Assoulin earrings while looking sultry at the camera.

Nylon’s Editor In Chief, Gabrielle Korn, started this Black History Month issue in 2018, with 5 black models on the cover and touting an all Black creative team. She exclusively told Hello Beautiful regarding this new tradition, “Obviously, Black women are underrepresented in fashion. Rather than just pointing that out, we’re doing something actionable timed to the overlap of a fashion month with Black History Month (though we’re always conscious of diversity in our content and make sure that women of color have a strong presence if everything that we do.”

For the second issue, King is on the cover and has a sick editorial to tout. It was shot by Bronx based New York City artist Renell Medrano. They hired another Black female, Christine Nicholson, as the stylist and had Ursula Stephen on hair. Talk about a dream team! Joanna Simkin did makeup while on-demand beauty service Glam Squad handled the nails. In the above shot, King is wearing a colorful Zimmermann dress. I love the bold turquoise eye and the messy bedhead hair.

It’s so refreshing to see King in this high fashion editorial. I hope that this year she’s featured on even more covers and in more editorials. She made waves at the 2019 SAG Awards, standing out in a yellow Ralph and Russo dress. She’s turning out to be one to watch in celeb fashion. In the above shot she’s wearing an Emanuel Ungaro top and pants, Boheur earrings and Fendi shoes.

In her interview, she holds nothing back. The actress discusses inequalities in Hollywood, her position as a L’Oreal ambassador, and more. You can read the full interview, here.
