Celebrity Hairstylist Ursula Stephen Drops The Details On Your Must-Have Fall Hairstyle

September 10, 2018  |

Ursula Stephen is carefully cutting an angular bob for one of the Harlem’s Fashion Row models before the show. Her precision and attention to detail is unmatched. This is the first fashion show that the celebrity hairstylist has headed in awhile, but you wouldn’t be able to tell. She is calmly instructing the Harlem’s Fashion Row team on the styles and helping to ensure that everything looks precise and perfect for the show.

Utilizing TRESemmé hair products, she created a Rihanna-esq style, a triangle bob and slicked-back looks with accessories that she referenced as “junking up” the hair for the three designers featured in the show.

As I looked at all the fabulous hair backstage from braids to weaves to wigs and more, I questioned what we could expect for Fall 2018 and what styles are out.

Without hesitation, Stephen exclaimed, “I’m so sick of the part in the middle and lonnnnnng.” This look has been a favorite of celebs like Nicki Minaj and Kim Kardashian West, but Ms. Stephen is over it. She questioned, “Can I get a deep side part and a sexy comb-over? That’s what I’m looking forward to. I only want to see one eye. I want to see shorter lengths. I want to see bone straight. I want to see clean hair. I want to see bouncy.”

As I begin to envision the styles, she continues, “I want to see working girl hair.” What’s working girl hair, you may ask? Stephen explains, “I want that blown out roller set hair. Not long, just blown out and it’s moving. She’s walking and it’s just bouncing…like Murphy Brown.” Current popular styles are protective styles or have an effortlessly simple look (like super long and parted down the middle). Stephen isn’t about easy hair for the Fall. She explains to Madame Noire, “I want to see hair DONE. I’m tired of seeing this lazy hair. Put some work into your hair in the morning, chile.”
